South Dakota Trip Day #2

October 7, 2024

Dinosaur Park was constructed in 1936, during the Great Depression, as a way to lure travelers into Rapid City on their way to Mt. Rushmore. It has recently undergone a significant renovation and is now very ADA friendly and a pleasant short stroll.

Always one of our favorite stops for a stroll is Canyon Lake Park right in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Next was a stop at the Wild Bill Bar in Deadwood, South Dakota. This is the site where Wild Bill Hickok was shot on August 2, 1876.

Lisa and I sat at one of the tables on the left and I enjoyed a beer. Since first visiting Deadwood, I have wanted to say that I had a drink at the bar where Wild Bill was shot. Until now, we had always had the dogs with us, so we couldn’t go inside. This trip we finally made it happen.

Wild Bill Hickok.

Commemorative Wild Bill Hickok revolvers with what is known as “Dead Man’s Hand” in poker. This was the hand Wild Bill had when he was shot. It is two pair, black 8’s and A’s.

One of my favorite places on earth!!! The DC Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery in Spearfish, SD. I can’t come to SD without visiting this place. Just a peaceful and wonderful place to stroll the grounds. It never disappoints.
